Habitat’s programs provide families a hand-up, not a handout. Habitat for Humanity Knox County builds homes in partnership with hard-working, low-income families who are willing to work hard to become homeowners. Through our Homeownership program, we sell homes to qualified families at a 0% interest rate and a set monthly mortgage payment that does not exceed 30% of your gross monthly income.

Steps to Becoming a Partner Family

The journey to homeownership can seem long. We are here to walk with you through each step of the way. Habitat for Humanity Knox County, IL provides the opportunity for low-income families to partner with us to become homeowners.

Partnership Requirements

After an applicant family is selected for a home, they become a Habitat Partner Family and will begin their Partnership Requirements. Partner families build their home in partnership with Habitat staff and community volunteers. Homes are usually ready within a year after a family is selected. Once all partnership requirements are complete, the family will buy the house from Habitat, becoming the owner of their own home!

Program Qualifications

Habitat does not give homes away. We are a mortgage lender and sell homes to qualified families. Read more about our qualifications to determine if Habitat’s homeownership program is right for you. Qualification is determined by an applicant’s current need for housing, their willingness to partner with Habitat, and their ability to pay for the home.
